Myositis is inflammation or swelling of the muscles. Injury, medicines, infection, or an immune disorder can lead to myositis.[1]

It is a documented side effect of the lipid-lowering drugs statins and fibrates.

Diagnosis

Elevation of creatine kinase in blood is indicative of myositis.

Treatment

Polymyositis and dermatomyositis are first treated with high doses of corticosteroids.
