Definition: Endocrine disorders are a group of disorders that may include problems with one or more of the eight major glands in the body, such as the thyroid, pituitary gland, adrenal gland, and pancreas. These disorders are caused by too low or too high levels of the hormones made one or more of these glands. Endocrine disorders may affect growth and development, metabolism, sexual function, and mood. Treatment for endocrine disorders may include taking hormone supplements orally or getting injections.
