Definition: A procedure that is used to look inside the digestive system. The procedure is completed with a long thin lighted tube with a camera attached called an endoscope. The endoscope is inserted into the mouth or the rectum depending on which part of the body needs to be viewed. An endoscopy can be used to look for causes of discomfort in the bowels such as tumors or ulcers.
