Definition: Micrognathia occurs when the jaw is smaller than is average. Micrognathia may cause some dental problems as a child gets older. In some cases, it may be an indication of an underlying condition that is causing the jaw to be smaller than expected or is causing slow growth in general. Treatment options may focus on making sure the airway is kept open.
