Definition: Bones, muscles, and joints, along with tendons, ligaments, and cartilages make up the musculoskeletal system. The different parts of the musculoskeletal system serve different jobs. For instance, bones provide support and shape to the body and protect organs. Joints provide flexibility that help make movement possible. Muscles also help with movement.
