Definition: Scoliosis refers to a condition in which the spine is curved sideways. The severity of the curvature and whether the condition is causing symptoms determines the type of treatment recommended. For example, if person is not having symptoms, he or she may only need to be monitored. However, if the scoliosis is causing pain, braces or surgery may be necessary.
