Definition: Syndactyly occurs when the fingers or toes (digits) are not completely separated but instead are slightly webbed. In some cases, the webbing involves only the skin of the fingers or toes; in other cases, the webbing also involves the bones or nails of the digits. Surgery can correct the webbing in many cases.
