Definition: Contractures are changes in the body that cause loss of flexibility or movement in those areas. These changes most often affect muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints. Contractures can be caused by problems with the connection between the brain and the rest of the body, genetic disorders, or injuries. Treatment options may include physical therapy, braces, or surgery.
