History
Värmdö Hundred was then old divided into quarters. In 1538, there was an Ulffzala quarter which consisted of the current Östra and Västra Älvsala as well as several farms situated to the west. In 1580 these farms were included in Hemmesta fjärding. Älvsala was burned in 1719 by the Imperial Russian Fleet.[2]
In connection with Statistics Sweden changing its method for determining agglomerations in 2015, four small areas, Älvsala, Fagerdala, Bullandö and Björkvik, were merged and formed a new agglomeration.[3] In 2020, the Fagerdala area was mined out and renamed Västra Älvsala.
