2011–12 Ystalyfera RFC season

Ystalyfera Rugby Football Club had an eventful season in the 2011-12 National League Division 3 South West. The team began with high expectations after winning the West Wales Bowl in the previous season. However, early losses to Vardre and Pencoed dampened their spirits. Throughout the season, the Wales campaign in the World Cup Tournament caused disruptions and longer gaps between games.

Despite the challenges, Ystalyfera managed to regain their form and achieved impressive victories over several opponents. In November, they narrowly lost a close encounter against Taibach. As the year turned, the team showcased their true capability with strong performances against Mumbles and Bryncoch, along with revenge wins against Vardre and Pencoed. They also secured a notable Welsh Plate away win against struggling Aberavon Green Stars.

The team's performance improved further in the league, securing a 3rd placed promotion spot and boosting confidence within the squad. They achieved commanding victories against Brynamman and Aberavon Green Stars, setting a record for their best-ever away win in the National League. However, they faced tough competition from the top three promotion teams, experiencing three consecutive losses.

The season ended on a high note, with Ystalyfera achieving an all-time record victory against Aberavon Green Stars with a score of 114–8. They went on to win the Swansea Valley Cup, further adding to their successful campaign.

Throughout the season, several players stood out for their achievements. Notably, Phillip Thomas scored the most tries (16) and Dane Clancy accumulated the most points (146) through penalties and conversions. Damian James proved to be a significant asset to the team, becoming the player with the most tries and points for the club.

At the end of the season, various players received awards for their outstanding performances, including Coaches Players of the Year, Most Improved Player, Clubman Award, and Players Player of the Year.'
