Notes:
  1. As a result of Bury's expulsion from League One, only one team is relegated to maintain League Two at 24 teams.[13]
  2. Macclesfield Town deducted four points for failing to both pay their players' wages and to fulfil a fixture, reduced from six points after appeal.[14][15] A further seven-point deduction was given for failing to play December's match against Plymouth Argyle.[16] A further two-point deduction was given for breaches of regulations over non-payment of wages.[17] On 3 July the EFL appealed against the independent disciplinary panel's sanctions on Macclesfield.[18] A further four points were deducted on 11 August 2020, resulting in Macclesfield Town being relegated. Stevenage reprieved[19]

Coronavirus Suspension

On 13 March 2020, all professional football in England was suspended until at least 3 April 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[27] Six days later, the suspension was extended to at least 30 April 2020.[28] On 3 April 2020, the suspension was extended indefinitely.[29]

On 11 May 2020, the Government released a document that stated that sport would not be able to resume before 1 June 2020 at the earliest, and only behind closed doors.[30]

On 15 May 2020, the League Two clubs voted to end the season early,[31] a decision that was ratified on 9 June.[32]

This left Morecambe in 22nd place on 0.86 points per game, and safe to take their place in League Two for the 2020–21 season.
