27 (film)

27 is a 2023 animated short film directed by Flóra Anna Buda.[1] The 11-minute short premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival,[2] where it won the Palme d'Or Award for Best Short Film.[3][4] The film also won the Cristal Award for Best Short at the 2023 Annecy International Animation Film Festival.[5]

27 has been featured in a number of international film festivals, such as the Toronto International Film Festival,[6] Telluride Film Festival,[7] the Sarajevo Film Festival[8] and the Melbourne International Film Festival.[9]

Buda, the writer, director and production designer of the film, has spoken publicly about the autobiographical element in her film[10], and her intentions to open up conversations about the struggle of young people due to the housing crisis in her home country, Hungary.[11]

Plot

Alice lives in her dreams, to escape her suffocating everyday life. Today, she is turning 27 years old, and she still lives with her parents. After taking psychedelics at a party on a factory roof, she falls of her bike on her way home. Injured and hungover, she is forced to face the realities of her life in the city.[12]
