Abolhassan Shamsabadi

Abolhassan Shamsabadi Larijani (also known as Ayatollah Seyyed Abolhassan Shamsabadi Mazandarani, or Abulhassan Shamsabadi) (Persian: سید ابوالحسن شمس‌آبادی مازندرانی), (2 August 1907 – 7 April 1976) was an Iranian Cleric and philanthropist.[1]

Background

He born into a family of religious scholars of Mazandarani origin that had settled in Isfahan in the early 19th century. Shamsabadi on 7 April 1976, while on his way to the mosque, he was abducted by unknown assailants and soon after was found dead, strangled with his own turban. He was kidnapped by the group attributed to Mehdi Hashemi and killed.[2]

His death occasioned a vast outpouring of grief in Isfahan, and the bazaar of the city was closed in protest.[3][4] He was the lawyer of Abu al-Qasim al-Khoei in Iran.[5][6]

After returning from Najaf, Shamsabadi was active in activities such as helping orphans and the poor, and he played a role in the establishment and expansion of charitable institutions, such as the Association of Helpers, the Hoseiniye Building in Mashhad and Karbala, and Ababasir School for the Blind.[7][8]
