History

Alan Boswell founded the group in 1982. By 2016 the group had six offices in East Anglia.[2] The group advises businesses and individuals. Boswell is the group's executive chairman.[3]

In 2013, the group appointed Chris Gibbs as its managing director.[4]

In 2016 the group acquired the Cambridge-based brokerage firm S-Tech Insurance Services. Following the acquisition, the gross written premium for the expanded group rose to £82 million.[5] S-Tech retained its name and its staff. Therefore, the group's workforce exceeded 300.[6]

In 2017 the group acquired Lincolnshire-based brokerage Sutcliffe Insurance Brokers, expanding their operations into Lincolnshire.[7]

The group purchased Norwich's Prospect House from the Archant media group.[8]

In 2023, the Group announced its acquisition of a local wealth management firm, ARW Wealth.[9]

Philanthropy

The group established its charitable trust in 2019 to support East Anglia's citizens and award grants to organisations. In 2022 the Eastern Daily Press reported that the group had donated approximately £1m to local charities. The trust gave £250,00 to charities and community groups in its first year, £339,000 in its second year and £520,000 in its third year. Recipients of the trust include The Feed, Big C and the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Great Britain.[10]

In 2017 the group raised £70,000 for the cancer charity Big C.[11]

Awards

The Insurance Times named the group Independent Insurance Broker of the Year at its annual Awards.[12]

In 2022, Finance Monthly announced Alan Boswell Group as Insurance Broker of the Year in their annual insurance awards.[13]
