Brown was signed by Doncaster Rovers' manager Billy Bremner from Shrewsbury Town for £35,000 in March 1984.[2][3] The 1984–85 season started well for Brown with a hat-trick in a win at Reading, however he was injured a little later in the season and despite a two-game comeback the following season he was forced to retire from the game. He made 17 appearances for Rovers, scoring 7 goals.[3]
He is the father of former footballer Chris Brown.
