Biography

His father is a doctor and his mother, Domenica Regazzoni, is a painter and a sculptor.

Since he was a child, Bidoli had hung out at the manifacture of stringed instruments of his grandfather, Dante Paolo Regazzoni, a luthier operating in the second half of the twentieth century in his laboratory in Cortenova, in Valsassina.[2] In this shop, Bidoli learnt the first rudiments of music and started to play his grandfather's violins.[3] [4] As a child he was already directed towards the study of music, enrolling him in the violin course at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory of Music in Milan, where his first teacher was Gigino Maestri. In 2003 he performed in a concert as a soloist at the Teatro Signorelli in Cortona,[5] with a repertoire of classical music. The following year, he was one of the winners of the National String Festival of Vittorio Veneto. His training course at the Conservatory in Milan where Bidoli gained a diploma with top marks cum laude in 2006.[5][6] He continued with various specialization courses at the Haute Ecole de Musique in Lausanne and then at the Mozarteum in Salzburg with Pierre Amoyal. Furthermore he attended a specialization course at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena with Salvatore Accardo[5][7]and then another one at the Accademia Internazionale di Imola with Pavel Berman and Oleksandr Semchuk .

Career

He has performed and collaborated with Bruno Canino,[8] with whom he has recorded a number of albums.[5][9] He has featured with Vittorio Sgarbi in the theatre project Il Fin la Maraviglia, an account of the Baroque age via images and sounds, which was performed at the theatre in Chiasso (Switzerland) in 2015.[10] In April 2009, he developed a viral infection that led to his becoming tetraplegic, due to Guillain-Barré syndrome, but succeeded in playing the violin again two years later.[11] Bidoli has appeared as guest artist in radio broadcasts on Radio France, NDR Kultur, Radio Svizzera Italiana and Rai Radio 3.[12] After teaching for some years at the Conservatory Francesco Cilea in Reggio Calabria, he is currently a violin teacher at the Conservatory Niccolò Piccinni in Bari. He regularly holds masterclasses for violin and chamber music in various Italian cities and is the art director of Musica in Corte Festival in Crema.

Musical repertoire

Since a few years ago, in collaboration with Bruno Canino,[13][14] Bidoli has recovered some unpublished works written by composers such as Camille Saint-Saëns and Luís de Freitas Branco,[15] drawing people's attention on these authors. Bidoli has performed a huge repertorire of classical music that ranges from classical authors such as Camille Saint-Saëns[16][17] [18] to Igor Fëdorovič Stravinskij, Francis Poulenc, Sergej Sergeevič Prokofiev, Maurice Ravel[19][20] and to almost forgotten artists of the music of the late 19th century who, through the paraphrases of Camillo Sivori and Antonio Bazzini, brought Verdi's opera into the living rooms;[21][22][23][24] and to unpublished or rarely performed musical pieces of 20th century composed by Goffredo Petrassi, Gian Francesco Malipiero and Alfredo Casella,[25] up to the lesser-known chamber music repertoire by Nino Rota, up to the compositions, almost unknown outside the borders of Portugal, by the composer Luis De Freitas Branco.

Instruments

Bidoli owns some musical instruments. During his concerts, he plays a violin made by Stefano Scarampella and one made by his grandfather.
