Career

Alicia Malone first auditioned for, and was hired by the TCM film streaming service, FilmStruck, in 2015. Malone practiced auditioning for a TCM broadcast channel hosting role by recording the introductions made by Robert Osborne and Ben Mankiewicz, then writing out the scripts, and then practiced reading those scripts in front of a camera. In 2017, she auditioned for a Turner Classic Movies hosting role, and the following January, in 2018, she was hired by the network. She said that in order to prepare for work as a host on TCM, she needs to watch all of the films which are to screen on TCM, do research in order to understand the background behind the films, and also know how to expertly read a teleprompter.[4]

TEDx Talks

Malone has presented two separate TEDx talks on obstacles women have faced in the movie industry. The first which she presented on December 20, 2015 was entitled #GirlsInFilm for TEDxSanJuanIsland. In this talk she spoke to the under representation of women and girls in the film industry.[5] The second TED talk, which she presented on July 6, 2017, was called Female Directors in Hollywood & Impact of Movies Made From 1 Perspective. She presented this TED talk for TEDxBend. She told stories of the history of Hollywood, and how women have argued that women needed to be directors so that more than one type of story would be told.[6]
