Amal Hamad

Amal Tawfiq Abdel Hadi Nashwan Hamad (born on July 12, 1963, in Beit Hanoun, Gaza Strip) is a Palestinian politician and feminist, and a leader in the Fatah movement. She is the Palestinian Minister of Women's Affairs in the Shtayyeh Government.

Early life and education

Amal Tawfiq Abdel Hadi Hamad received her primary and preparatory education in Beit Hanoun and obtained a general secondary school degree in 1982. She then pursued her higher education at Birzeit University in the West Bank, earning a bachelor's degree in mathematics in 1987 and a general diploma in education in 1989. Furthering her qualifications, she obtained a diploma in curricula and teaching methods in education from Al-Aqsa University in the Gaza Strip in 1997, followed by a diploma in educational psychology from the same university in 1998. In 2001, she completed her master's degree in social psychology at Ain Shams University in the Arab Republic of Egypt and later, in 2015, achieved a doctorate in philosophy with a specialization in educational psychology from the same university.

Political career

Amal Hamad has held several key positions throughout her career, including serving as the Responsible Minister for the General Union of Palestinian Women in the Gaza Strip since 2007 and being a member of the Fatah Central Committee.[1] She was elected as a member of the Fatah Revolutionary Council during the Sixth Fatah Conference in Bethlehem in 2009.[2] Additionally, she has acted as the Deputy Secretary of the Revolutionary Council of the Fatah movement and as a member of the Palestinian National Council. Furthermore, she has served as the deputy commissioner for international relations of the Fatah movement and took on the role of Responsible Minister for the Ministry of Women's Affairs (Palestine) since April 13th, 2019. Amal Hamad assumed the position of Minister of Palestinian Women's Affairs in the eighteenth Palestinian government under the leadership of Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh and was sworn in before Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.[3]
