Early life
Conor Angus Cloud Hickey was born and grew up in Oakland, California.[1][2][3] He was of Irish descent, with the majority of his family still residing in Ireland.[2][4] He had two younger twin sisters, Molly and Fiona.[3][5][6] He attended the School of Production Design at Oakland School for the Arts,[3] where he was a classmate of his future Euphoria co-star Zendaya.[7] Cloud said that he suffered "minor brain damage" after falling into a construction pit in a poorly-lit street in the downtown area of Oakland in 2013. The accident resulted in a scar on the left side of his head.[8]
Career
While working at Woodlands restaurant close to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, Cloud was scouted by Euphoria casting director Jennifer Venditti; he initially thought she was trying to scam him.[9] In the series, he portrayed Fezco, a kindhearted drug dealer who often provided moral guidance to some of the main characters in the series.[10] The Wall Street Journal described the character as a "lovable drug dealer".[10] His role was expanded in the second season.[11] He had never acted prior to his role on Euphoria, having his only previous experience in the field when he built sets and worked on lighting and sound for his high school's theater department.[12]
In 2019, Cloud appeared as himself in the television series The Perfect Woman.[13] He also appeared in three music videos. In 2020, he appeared in Noah Cyrus's music video for "All Three".[14] In 2021, he played Walker in the comedy drama movie North Hollywood.[15] In 2022, he appeared in two music videos for Juice Wrld's "Cigarettes" and for Becky G and Karol G's "Mamiii" music videos.[16][17] In 2023, he appeared in the film The Line, portraying Robert DeWitt.[18] That same year, he signed with United Talent Agency (UTA).[18]
Cloud had roles in three films which were unreleased at the time of his death: the horror film Your Lucky Day, an untitled Universal Monsters film, and the drama film Freaky Tales.[19] It was confirmed that he had completed work on Your Lucky Day and the Universal project before he died.[20]
Death
Cloud was found dead at his family's house in Oakland, California, on July 31, 2023, aged 25.[11][15] The Oakland Fire Department were summoned for a medical emergency and declared Cloud "already deceased" on arrival. On the last days of his life, he had been mourning the death of his father, whose funeral he had attended in Ireland a week earlier.[21] Although many of Cloud's fans speculated that he may have killed himself, or that there was foul play, his mother objected saying, "We may find out that he overdosed accidentally and tragically, but it's abundantly clear that he did not intend to check out of this world."[22] On September 21, 2023 it was confirmed to be true, by the Alameda County Coroner's Office that Cloud died from "acute intoxication" from the "combined effects of methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl and benzodiazepines", and that the manner of death was accidental.[23]
