Arakan Rohingya Union

The Arakan Rohingya Union (ARU) is an umbrella group for Rohingya Organizations from around the world. The ARU works to protect the rights of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.

History

A convention was held at the General Secretariat of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) on 30th and 31st May 2011 attended by Senior Rohingya Leaders representing many Rohingya Associations from various countries around the world and with the participation of Euro-Burma office in Brussels, to discuss the difficulties faced by the Rohingya people and find ways and means to assist them.

The convention issued a joint statement which included the formation of the Arakan Rohingya Union (ARU) under the patronage of the Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC)[3] [38th council of Foreign Ministers' Conference Resolution No. 4/37-MM, May 30-31, 2011 at OIC Headquarters in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia],[4] toseek a political solution to the problems face by the Rohingya people. [5]


The [[Arakan Rohingya Union|ARU]] that serves as umbrella group for 25 different Rohingya organizations has become a legitimate organization accepted by many Rohingyas both in Myanmar and abroad. Today it has 61 Rohingya Organizations.
