Arif Anwar Hashmi

Arif Anwar Hashmi (born 16 April 1964, Hindi: आरिफ अनवर हाशमी) is an Indian politician and a member of 15th Legislative Assembly, Uttar Pradesh of India. He represents the Utraula constituency in Balrampur district of Uttar Pradesh.[1][2][3]

Political career

Arif was elected as a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly for the first time in the general elections of 2007. Arif participated in public movements many times, and in the year 1996, he was imprisoned in district jail in Gonda under Section 151 during the 'Raj Bhawan Gheron' movement. Since 1986, Arif has been the chairman of the Farmers Welfare Committee.[4][5]

2023 arrest

On June 18, 2023, UP Police arrested Arif Anwar Hashmi and sent him to jail in judicial custody. Police had earlier arrested the Arif in the case of grabbing government land with the help of forged documents.[6]
