Bentkey

Bentkey is a subscription video on demand service focused on children's television. The service was launched on October 16, 2023 as a division of the conservative news website and media company The Daily Wire, and features original programming such as Chip Chilla (a cartoon starring comedian Rob Schneider and inspired in large part by the Australian series Bluey) and A Wonderful Day with Mabel Maclay.[1] The new brand also has their own Snow White adaptation in the works starring Brett Cooper that is set to be released in 2024.[2]

History

The service was originally announced in March 2022 by The Daily Wire as a children's production unit called Daily Wire Kids or DW Kids for short.[3] Around that time, the company announced that the animated series Chip Chilla, at the time known under the working title Chilla Time, was officially in production. More information about the division was given at a Fall 2022 event, where the live-action series A Wonderful Day with Mabel Maclay was announced.[4] On October 16, 2023, Daily Wire co-founder Jeremy Boreing revealed in a 9 minute livestream that the kids' division had officially been launched, now a standalone streaming service called "Bentkey". Boreing stated that the reason for the name change was that the Daily Wire name was 'too political.'

Content and reception

Bentkey's flagship series Chip Chilla has been accused of being a "blatant knock-off" of the popular Australian animated series Bluey, due to the strikingly similar animation style.[5] Daily Wire co-founder Jeremy Boreing has denied the accusations, praising Bluey for its writing and its "values" and claiming the accusations against Chip Chilla were a "silly notion."[6]
