Bhavya Bishnoi (politician)

Bhavya Bishnoi (born 16 February 1993) is an Indian politician from the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was elected to the Haryana Legislative Assembly for the Adampur, Haryana Assembly constituency in a November 2022 by-election. He is the youngest legislator in the state.[1][2][3][4]

Early life and education

Bhavya was born on 16 February 1993 in New Delhi, India, when his grandfather, Ch. Bhajan Lal, was serving as Chief Minister of Haryana.[3][5] Bhavya studied at The Shri Ram School,[6] Gurugram, where he was also the School President. Bhavya topped Delhi-NCR in both, the Grade 10 ICSE board examinations (securing 97%) as well as the Grade 12 IB examinations (securing 43 out of 45 points).[7]

Bhavya earned a Bachelor’s degree in Government and Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science in London,[8] United Kingdom, where he also captained LSE’s cricket team. Thereafter, he read Modern South Asian Studies (MSc) at Oxford University,[6][9][10][11] United Kingdom, where he secured First Class Honours besides earning an ‘Oxford Blue’ in cricket.[12] Most recently, Bhavya was pursuing a Master in Public Administration (MPA) at the Harvard Kennedy School,[6] USA.

Career

Bhavya is currently serving as the youngest legislator from Adampur in a 90-member Haryana Assembly.[13][14] Prior to this, he contested (unsuccessfully) the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Hisar, Haryana, on an Indian National Congress party ticket.[15] He was the first parliamentary candidate to have designed a constituency-specific manifesto.

In 2018, Bhavya founded Bhajan Global Impact Foundation (BGIF),[16] a non-profit that aims to drive transformative change through evidence-based policymaking, impact interventions, and development collaborations. Prior to that, Bhavya was Special Projects Lead at the Global Education & Leadership Foundation (tGELF) where he co-led and co-managed Global Citizen India,[17][18] a citizen engagement and social impact movement that culminated in India’s largest ever musical festival held in Mumbai in November 2016.[19]

Sports

Bhavya has pursued cricket, athletics, and swimming at the state level.[20][11] Bishnoi earned an ‘Oxford Blue’ for excellence in cricket while representing the Oxford University Cricket Club.[21]

Family

Bhavya is the grandson[22] of late Ch. Bhajan Lal, who served as Chief Minister of Haryana for 3 terms, as well as Union Minister for Agriculture and Environment.[23] He is the son of Kuldeep Bishnoi, a two-time Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and four-time Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), and Renuka Bishnoi, a two-time MLA.[2][24]
