The name Brunskill is of Anglo-Saxon and Old Norse origin; it is a topographical name for someone who lives at a brown hill or brown-coloured stream. Old English (pre-7th century} "brun" means "brown", and the second half may derive from the Old Norse skjallr, meaning "a strong stream", or hyll, meaning a hill or mount. Brunskill was first recorded as a surname in the late 16th century.[1]
