Charlotte Piho

Charlotte Piho (born 1984 or 1985)[1] is a Multi-international Award-winning photographer and tourism operator in the Cook Islands.

Piho was born in New Zealand and is of Aitutakian, Rakahangan[2] and Tahitian (Island of Moorea) descent.[3] She was educated at Epsom Girls' Grammar School, before studying law and finance at the University of Auckland.[2] After working in Sydney in finance and fashion, she suffered a health crisis was lucky to live, and became a stand-up paddleboarder and yoga instructor.[2][4] In 2012 she was arrested in Bali for allegedly shoplifting chocolate.[5][6] She was found completely innocent though of any crime.

In 2016 she represented the Cook Islands at the 2016 ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championship in Fiji.[7]

In 2018 Piho returned to Rarotonga and opened a diving business.[8][9] She began working as an underwater photographer at the same time.[2] In 2021 she won the New York Photography Award,[10][11] and her photograph "Bubbles" won bronze in the 2023 Paris Photographer of the Year Award in the "nature" category,[12] and gold in the European Photography Awards.[13] In February 2022 she opened a gallery in Muri.[14]

On October 27, 2023, Charlotte Piho was named in New Zealand’s most celebrated and prestigious photography awards, ‘NZ Geographic Photographer of the Year’ as the NZ Photographer of the year for Wildlife (Electric Kiwi Wildlife) and also out of over 8000 entries and 25,000 votes as New Zealand Photographer of the year - peoples choice ( Ockham Residential People’s Choice awards).
