Chef Jean-Pierre

Jean-Pierre Bréhier is a French chef, television personality, cookbook author, and YouTuber. As of September, 2023, his YouTube channel Chef Jean-Pierre has over 1.4 million subscribers and 122 million views.[1] His cooking tips have been cited alongside other celebrity chefs.[2][3]

Personal life

Jean-Pierre was born in Aix-en-Provence in the south of France, Jean-Pierre's first job, at the age of 12, was in a local butcher's shop.[4]

His mother is Italian and was a Cordon Bleu chef. His father is French.[5]

Bréhier moved to the United States at the age of 21.

Career

At age 14, he apprenticed at L'Oustau De Baumaniere, a three Michelin Star restaurant located in Provence.[4][6]

He opened The Left Bank restaurant in 1976 in Fort Lauderdale.[7][4] He would sell the restaurant in 1997.[8][9]

In 1996, he started a cooking school.[10][11] Tens of thousands of people attended his cooking school classes which partnered with Holland American cruises as an excursion experience.[12] The school closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and Jean-Pierre restarted his YouTube channel in 2020. The channel is instructional and teaches how to prepare recipes and use proper techniques. As of 2023, his most popular video is Dicing an Onion, with over 10 million views. His YouTube has received positive reviews for being accessible, child friendly, and including full instructions for all his recipes.[13]

He hosted a nationally broadcast cooking show on PBS called Sunshine Cuisine which was nominated for the James Beard awards for the Best Culinary Video in the Broadcast media category.[14][15][16][17] He was a regular guest on The Today Show, appearing 28 times.[18] He has also appeared on The Food Network multiple times.[19][20][21]

Jean-Pierre has written a number of cookbooks including Cooking 101: The Definitive Interactive Cooking Program.[22] Cooking 101 was Time Life's best selling cookbook for two years.[23]
