Claudelice dos Santos

Claudelice Silva dos Santos (born 1982) is a Brazilian environmental and human rights activist. She leads campaign against illegal logging for charcoal production and ranching in Amazonian settlements in the Praia-Alta Piranheria region. She was nominated by the European Parliament for the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thoughts in 2019 in recognition of her work.[1][2][3]

Activism

dos Santos intensified her human rights campaign in 2011 following the killing of her brother José Claudio Ribeiro dos Santos and his wife Maria do Espírito Santo for opposing illegal logging and deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon rainforest. dos Santos herself has also been threatened with death for her campaign against deforestation and other destructive activities to the environment.[4][5]

She was the Brazilian delegate at  26th conference of the parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26).[6]
