Courtney (surname)

Courtney is a surname originating from England, France and Ireland.[1][2] In the latter, it is anglicised of the Gaelic Ó Curnáin 'descendant of Curnán' (a diminutive of corn 'horn'), a Munster Irish given name.[3] A variant of Cournane, the name is prevalent in County Kerry.[3][4] It may also be derived from McCourtney (Irish: Mac Curtáine),[5] or more so, of the former Anglo-Norman origin.[1]
