Daya Saran Sinha

Daya Saran Sinha (18th of March 1941 - 23rd October 2023) was an Indian Judge and 18th Former Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court and the Former as well as First Chairperson of Gujarat State Human Rights Commission which was constituted on 12th September , 2006.

Career and Death

Sinha was born in 1941. He graduated in Arts and Law from the University of Allahabad in 1959. After passing Law he started practice in the Allahabad High Court and Supreme Court of India on Civil, Company, Tax and Constitutional matters.[1][2] He worked as Member of Allahabad High Court Legal Aid, Standing Counsel and Additional Chief Standing Counsel of State of Uttar Pradesh. Sinha appeared as a Senior Counsel of the Eastern Railways and many statutory bodies of Uttar Pradesh Government. He became the Judge of Allahabad High Court in 1986. He also received a degree of D.Litt ( Doctor of Literature ). On 17 March 2002 he was elevated as the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court.[3] In his tenure Justice Sinha served as the First Chairperson of Gujarat State Human Rights Commission from 2006 to 2011.[4][5] He retired on 18 March 2003 from the post of the Chief Justice.[3]Post retirement he was the Chairman of many committees.He was also a freemason of the Grand Lodge of India 🇮🇳.

On 23rd of October 2023, Justice Sinha took his last breath at Max Hospital Saket , New Delhi at 8:15am. He was suffering from a severe bacterial infection which caused Sepsis in his body and at last his bp went critically low and then the heart stopped responding. The ICU emergency team gave him CPR but there was no response and at 8:24am he was declared dead.The reason of death was given to be septic shock and respiratory failure. He was at Max for about 7 days before the inevitable happened and he was in too much pain and suffering. His body was brought back to Allahabad at his residence for cremation and the last rites were performed on 24/10/23 in the afternoon by his elder grandson.
