Dhevvadhoo dynasty

The Dhevvadhoo dynasty was a Maldivian dynasty that lasted for nine years, from 1692 to 1701 AD. It was followed by the Isdhoo dynasty.[1]

History

During this period there was only one ruler, Sultan Mohamed bin Hajj Ali Thukkala. He was also known as Dhevvadhoo Rasgefaanu, and by his regnal name, Kula Ran Mani.[2] He began his reign after the death of Sultan Muhammad Shamsuddeen I, whose death marked the end of the Hamawi dynasty.

The Friday mosque, in Fenfushi, was built during this time period. It is considered well-preserved for its age and has been listed as a tentative entry on the UNESCO world heritage website.[3]
