Dhoomam (2023 film)

Dhoomam (transl.Smoke), initially titled C10H14N2, is an Indian Malayalam-language action thriller film[1] written and directed by Pawan Kumar.[3][4] The film was produced by Vijay Kiragandur under Hombale Films in their debut production in Malayalam cinema. It stars Fahadh Faasil and Aparna Balamurali, along with Roshan Mathew, Achyuth Kumar, Anu Mohan, and Vineeth. It was released on 23 June 2023 and opened to mixed reviews.[5]

Storyline

The film was supposed to be a psychological thriller that explores the themes of identity, memory, and perception. It follows the story of a man who wakes up with no memory of his past and is forced to piece together his identity. As he does so, he uncovers a dark secret that threatens to destroy him.

Film runs in parallel storyline, in present where Fahad is with his wife, and past where he has his marketing job intact at his friend's company.

Amazon Prime Video acquired the post-theatrical streaming rights of the film. It was supposed to release on the platform on 4 August 2023, but it was delayed due to the poor response for the film. [8]

Reception

Anandu Suresh of The Indian Express rated the film 1.5 out of 5 stars and wrote "Dhoomam serves as a reminder that merely having a significant message is insufficient to create a captivating film".[9]. Firstpost wrote that there was no zest, heft or Fahadh Faasil magic in a saga of unscrupulous capitalism saddled with a weak script and an unconscious gender skew in its take on addiction. [10]
