Draginja Nadażdin

Draginja Nadażdin (born 23 July 1975) is a Serbian-Polish human rights activist. She was director of Amnesty International Poland for 14 years and was a member of Social Council at Office of the Ombudsman. she was awarded the Golden Cross of Merit by Polish president in 2014.[1][2][3]

Background and education

Draginja Nadażdin was born in Mostar, Yugoslavia now Bosnia and Herzegovina. Following outbreak of war in 1992, she left Mostar for Belgrade where she spent two years. She was awarded a scholarship in 1994 to study Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Warsaw before enrolling for leadership program at the Leadership for Poland Centre.[4][5]

After graduation, she worked with several organizations including Polish Humanitarian Action and Global Learning and Education Network ASA before joining Amnesty International Poland as coordinator of Educational Projects. She was appointed director of Amnesty International Poland in 2007. She is credited for growing Amnesty Poland membership from 2000 to over 10,000 during her tenure as director. She resigned from Amnesty in 2021 after 14 years.[6][7][8]

Honours

In 2014, Polish president awarded her Golden Cross of Merit.

In July 2021, the Office of the Ombudsman honoured with the honorary badge of “For Merits for the Protection of Human Rights"
