Plot

Twinkie, an Asian American girl adopted by a white couple, has that nickname because "she is yellow on the outside and white on the inside."[3][4] She has been a closeted lesbian who is a junior in a predominantly white high school. Egghead, a nerdy, straight senior boy who is about to graduate from their high school, has been Twinkie's best friend since early elementary school. When he tries for the first time to kiss her, Twinkie rebuffs Egghead and then comes out to him. Egghead reluctantly accepts this. When Twinkie comes out to her parents, however, they become upset and reject her. She decides to run away for a few days to see the lesbian DJ that Twinkie has been corresponding with over social media, and recruits Egghead to drive her father's car. While on the road trip, she meets Jess, a bisexual woman who is also Asian American, and they develop an acquaintance. When Twinkie and Egghead reach the performance venue, the DJ dumps her over the phone before she can enter. Egghead has grown into being an ally, and brings Twinkie back to her new acquaintance on the way back home so that she can realize that there is a spark with her new friend.
