Biography

Eilera first started playing music at the age of twelve when she began taking classical guitar lessons.[1] At the age of seventeen, she began playing the electric guitar and experimenting with metal music.[1] At the age of nineteen, she attempted to form her own metal band, but was unsuccessful in recruiting other players, until she entered the metal scene in Montpellier and formed the band Suspiria.[2]

The band's name was ultimately changed to Chrysalis, and they released Between Strength and Frailty, a demo distributed by the French record label Adipocere Records.[2] During this time, Eilera and fellow Chrysalis guitarist Loïc Tézénas began working on a side project called Bliss, which mixed electronic music with metal music.[3] In 2003, Chrysalis disbanded, and Eilera and Tézénas began to focus solely on their side project, now known as Eilera. That same year, the duo self-released their first album, a full-length demo titled Facettes.

In 2004, Eilera caught the attention of Finnish label Spinefarm Records and a recording contract was signed.[4] In 2005, Eilera and Tézénas worked with record producer Hiili Hiilesmaa, cellist Max Lilja, and drummer Antti Lehtinen, to record their first album under Spinefarm Records. The EP, titled Precious Moment, was released later that year. In 2007, Eilera released her first solo studio album, Fusion, which had also been recorded with Hiilesmaa, Lilja, and Lehtinen.

After the purchase of Spinefarm by Universal Music Group, Eilera began working independently. She self-released the album Darker Chapter… and stars. After a tour in France, Eilera ended her collaboration with Tézénas and moved to Finland, where she currently resides.

In Finland, Eilera worked on new collaborations, including one with Pariisin Kevät on their first album Meteoriitti, which featured French and Finnish songwriting and original compositions by Eilera. She also began collaborating with Celtic harp player Lily Neill, often practicing together at Sibelius Academy. Together they have re-recorded many of Eilera's earlier songs as well as Tori Amos' song Winter.

Eilera began recording her next studio album, Face Your Demons, at Finnvox with old friend Tero Kinnunen of Nightwish, but ultimately opted for a more intimate sound and recorded the remainder of the album live in studio. Five official videos were released in support of the album, and three of them were shot live in studio for the songs Angel Made Temptress, Deadly Together and Your Way. All the videos were shot by Eilera's old friend Mitja Harvilahti, who also collaborated with Chilean visual artist David Letelier for the final two videos of the album for Face Your Demons and Male Female Balance.

In 2017, Eilera announced that she would be working on a new acoustic-based record related to the themes of waves. In January 2019, it was announced that the album was complete, with a photograph taken from the Finnvox Studios in Helsinki. During the recording process, Eilera posted on Facebook that Waves is a Franco/Finnish/Chilean collaboration.[5]
