El Matrag
Matrag (translated literally from Algerian Arabic as "the stick"[1][2]) is a traditional Algerian martial art that focuses on striking with a sword. It is believed to have originated in the Arab tribes of the Aurès Mountains, such as the Beni Amer, and it was used in combat for centuries.[3]

History
The exact origins of Matrag are unknown, but it is believed to be at least a few centuries old. It is thought to have originated in the Bedouin Arab tribes of the Oran region of Algeria.[2] Matrag was used for self-defense and for hunting, and it was also used in combat during tribal feuds and wars.
