Erik Bazinyan (born 21 May 1995) Is an Armenian-born, Canadian-based boxer who holds the NABF and NABA super middleweight titles. He resides in Laval, Quebec, Canada.

Biography

Erik Bazinyan was born in Yerevan, Armenia and currently resides on Laval, Quebec, Canada, Erik Bazinyan states that he had an Amateur career with a record of 108 wins and 1 loss, Bazinyan sadly lost his Father in 2022 which made him focus on his family before returning to boxing in February 2023.[1]

Professional career

Bazinyan began his career as a light heavyweight, winning his first seven fights in the division from 2014 to 2015 when he was 18-19 years old. On March 27, 2015, Bazinyan moved down to super middleweight and knocked Morgan Le Gal in the 5th round of their match.

WBO Youth Super Middleweight title

On September 3, 2016, Bazinyan fought Aro Schwartz for the vacant WBO Youth super middleweight title in a 10-round bout, with Bazinyan earning the unanimous decision victory.

WBO-NABO Super Middleweight title

On June 23, 2018, Bazinyan fought Peruvian David Zegarra for the vacant WBO-NABO Super middleweight title. Bazinyan knocked Zegarra down in the third round, but he was saved by the bell. Bazinyan downed Zegarra twice more in the next round, forcing a referee stoppage.[2]

Bazinyan vs. Ntetu

On October 13, 2018, Bazinyan was booked to defend his WBO-NABO Super middleweight title against Francy Ntetu. The vacant NABA Super middleweight title was also set on line. Bazinyan downed Ntetu in the sixth round. Ntetu later went back up but Bazinyan threw a flurry of punches, making the referee stop the match.

Bazinyan successfully defended his WBO-NABO and NABA titles against Ricardo Adrian Luna[3] and Alan Campa.

Erik Bazinyan vs Saúl Román

On December 13, 2019, Erik Bazinyan fought Mexican veteran Saúl Román in a non-title bout, knocking Román out in the third round.[4]

COVID-19 pandemic

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Bazinyan fought Finland's Timo Laine but due to inactivity because of the pandemic. The WBO-NABO title was vacated, though he kept the NABA title.

Bazinyan vs. Sigmon

On June 4, 2021, Erik Bazinyan returned to put his NABA title on the line against Scott Sigmon, while the vacant NABF super middleweight title was later also put on the line of the match in Cuernavaca, Mexico. In the second round of the match, Erik Bazinyan scored a knockout win against Sigmon.[5]

On February 12, 2022, it was announced that Bazinyan would fight Reinaldo Paniagua,[6] He later retained his NABF super middleweight title via TKO, later his NABA title got vacated, but on April 28, 2022, it was announced that he will defend his NABF Super middleweight title, while also the vacant NABA was put on line on Bazinyan's bout against Argentinian Marcelo Esteban Coceres,[7] Bazinyan succefully defended his NABF title and won back his NABA title via unanimous decision.

Bazinyan vs. Fox

On December 15, 2022, it was announced that Bazinyan would fight former WBA (Regular) super middleweight title challenger, Alantez Fox on February 2, 2023, at Montreal,[8] At the same time, the NABF and NABA Super middleweight titles are on the line. Bazinyan earned a majority decision win, performances, with the judges' scorecards reading 98–92, 98–92 and 95–95.[9]

Bazinyan vs. Macias

On April 5, 2023, it was announced that Bazinyan was booked to defend his NABF and NABA super middleweight titles against Jose de Jesus Macias,[10] During the fight, Bazinyan showed great performances in Round 1–2;Round 4–6, until in the 7th Round, Macias unexpectedly caught him with a hard right hand that made Bazinyan wobble, but Bazinyan stayed on his feet and won the bout.[11]

Bazinyan vs. Ellis

Despite the lack of performance of Bazinyan against Macias, Bazinyan came back stronger on his next bout against Ronald Ellis,[12] who has fought boxers like David Benavidez and Christian Mbili, Ellis hasn't fought a bout for nearly 2 years, but he is still a good match up for Bazinyan, On the 6th round of the fight, Bazinyan threw 2 right hands that knocks Ellis out.[13]
