Erumbu

Erumbu (transl. Ant) is a 2023 Indian Tamil-language drama film written, directed, and produced by Suresh G.[1] It stars Charle, M. S. Bhaskar, George Maryan, Monica Siva and Shakthi Rithvik.[2][3]

The kids, Monica and Sakthi, face struggles regardless of their age, which is compared to an ant carrying a weight equal to twenty times its actual weight. That's the reason the film is titled Ant.[4]

Plot

A young boy loses a one-gram ring and sets out to find it before his family returns house. Throughout the journey, his sister and a friend support him.

Production

The film was produced by Suresh Gunasekaran under the banner of Mandru GVS Production.[5] The cinematography of the film was done by K. S. Kalidass, and the editing of the film was done by Thiyagarajan M.[6] The film was shot in Kattumannarkoil in 2021.[7] The first look poster and trailer for the film was released on 17 May 2023.[8]

Music

The music for the film was composed by Arun Raj, who earlier composed music for Thadam.[9][10]

The film was released on 16 June 2023.

Reception

Logesh Balachandran of The Times of India gave the film 3 out of 5 stars and wrote, "Erumbu is a must-watch for anyone who appreciates a simple story with good intentions."[11] Jayabhuvaneshwari B of Cinema Express gave it 2 out of 5 stars and wrote, "The film's story is as predictable as one of your own."[12]

A critic from Vikatan gave the film a mixed review, stating that "the filmmaking style is more like a short film than a feature film."[13] A critic from Maalai Malar gave the film a mixed review, stating that "Erumbu - slow."[14]

A critic from Tamizh Padam gave it 2.75 out of 5 stars, praised the performances of all actors, and criticized the film, stating "it seemed like a documentary film."[15] Siddarth Srinivas of Only Kollywood gave it 3.25 out of 5 stars and wrote, "Erumbu is a sweet feel-good story that gathers a good amount of emotions and expresses them in a nice way to audiences."[16]
