Eva Alcón Soler

Eva Alcón Soler (born 21 January 1963 Castelló de la Plana) is a Spanish academic, and politician. She is rector of Jaume I University.

She is one of the first female university rectors in the country, and since 2023, the president of the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities.

Biography

She is a professor of English philology in the Department of English Studies at Jaume I University,[1] which she joined in 1993, she is director of the research group "Applied Linguistics to the Teaching of the English Language" (LAELA).[2] Her main research topics focus on English language acquisition. In her field of research, she published numerous scientific articles in international journals.

During her academic career, she was successively vice-dean of English philology (1999-2001), vice-rector of academic organization (2001-2006) and vice-rector of international cooperation (2006-2010).

In 2015, she was a candidate of the Valencian Socialist Party-PSOE (PSPV-PSOE) for the presidency of the Generalitat Valenciana.[3] She was elected a deputy to the Valencian Parliament in 2015, before resigning in 2017 to devote herself to university.[4]

In 2018, she was appointed rector of Jaume I University, becoming the first woman to hold this position in the history of this university.[5]

Since March 2023, she has been president of the Xarxa Vives d’universitats.[6] Since June 2023, she has also chaired the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities.[7]
