Gerhard Richter (The South Bank Show)
"Gerhard Richter" is an art documentary episode which was broadcast in February 2, 2003, based on the life of a German visual artist Gerhard Richter[1] on The South Bank Show. The documentary was a production of LWT for the ITV series.[2] It was directed and produced by Gerald Fox, introduced by Melvyn Bragg, and featured Gerhard Richter.[3][4] The episode is available on Arthaus Video.

Gerhard Richter is a documentary on German artist Gerhard Richter’s life in Germany.[3][5][6]

Production
Richter talks about how he grew up in East Germany where he attended Dresden's art school[7][8] and escaped to the other side just before the Berlin Wall was built[9][10] in this documentary. His entire artistic career is told in the documentary "Gerhardt Richter" made around the time of his enormously successful American retrospective at MOMA and SFMOMA[11][12] entitled "40 Years of Paintings."[13] The movie follows the artist at his house in Cologne, where he is undergoing a period of reflection and preparation before moving on to another series of paintings.[5][14]
