Giuliana Campanella

Giuliana Campanella (born 4 November 1976) is a rugby union player, rugby coach and Italian sports manager. She has 59 international caps and competed at two World Cups; since 2014, she has been the team manager of the national team.[1][2] In 2002, she was awarded the Bronze Medal for Athletic Valour.[3]

Biography

Giuliana Campanella began playing rugby at the age of fifteen, later joining Messina, a team based in the Castanea. In April 1997 she made her international debut in the Italy women's national rugby union team in Nice, during the 1997 FIRA Women's European Championship, in a victory against Ireland. In 1998, she was part of the team that took part in the 1998 Women's Rugby World Cup in the Netherlands . In 2002, she was again present at the 2002 Women's Rugby World Cup,[4] Italy 's last for 15 years.

With Messina he reached the Serie A final on several occasions, always being defeated by the Red Panthers of Treviso . With the dissolution of the Sicilian club, she moved to Red & Blu in Rome.[5] She married a New Zealand rugby player, Bevan Ryan; she began to alternate between Italy and her husband's country.[6]

Until 2013, she was available to the national team, for which she took the field for the fifty-ninth and last time against England during the Six Nations and then retired. In 2014, she was designated by the Federation of women's team manager of Italy, a position that she inaugurated on the occasion of the 2014 Six Nations.[5][7] She is also the coach of youth teams in Messina .[8] She works with the Capgemini Women in Rugby Leadership Program.[9][10]
