History
Government Mamit College was established in 1983[3] through the efforts of local leaders, Village Council members, and educated individuals who aimed to provide higher education opportunities to the backward and minority communities of western Mizoram. Initially known as Kaichhunga College, named after generous donation from a local enthusias. It was renamed Mamit College in 1987. The college operated on financial contributions from the local community and Village Council leaders until it attained Deficit Status in 1993. In 1992, it obtained affiliation under North-Eastern Hill University Shillong and later received permanent affiliation from Mizoram University in 2006. In 2007, the college was provincialized by the government, becoming a fully government-funded institution.
