Hideaki Fukutake

Hideaki Fukutake (born c. 1977) is a Japanese New Zealand businessman and arts patron. He is a director of the Benesse Corporation and the owner of the World of Wearable Art.

Early life and education

Fukutake is the son of Soichiro and Seiko Fukutake. He grew up in Okayama, Japan and attended Chuo University where he studied business.[1]

Career

Fukutake and his father are directors of the Benesse Corporation, an educational publishing company founded by his grandfather.[1] Before that he worked in the medical and aged care business.[1]

Fukutake and his father created the Benesse Art Site Naoshima, which includes the Chichu Art Museum and sculptures on the islands of Naoshima, Teshima and Inujima in the Seto Inland Sea.[1][2]

In 2009 Fukutake, his parents, wife and three children emigrated to New Zealand, becoming New Zealand citizens.[1][2] He set up a New Zealand company Still in 2020 with business partner Paul Cameron.[1] The goal of Still is to invest in and support enterprises that enhance art, culture and community.[1] In 2023 Shape Group, a subsidiary of Still, purchased power company Dependable Power.[3][4]

In 2022 Fukutake bought the fashion design competition and show the World of Wearable Art from Suzie Moncrieff.[1][2][5]
