Early life and high school

McKneely grew up in Poca, West Virginia and attended Poca High School.[1] He was named the Kanawha Valley Player of the Year as a sophomore after averaging 22 points per game.[2] McKneely averaged 23 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game during his junior season and won the Bill Evans Award as the high school boys basketball player in West Virginia and was also named the state Gatorade Player of the Year.[3] He repeated as the Gatorade Player of the Year and Bill Evans Award winner as a senior after averaging 22 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists per game.[4]

McKneely was rated a four-star recruit according to major recruiting services.[5][2] He committed to play college basketball at Virginia over offers from Kentucky, Purdue, Illinois, West Virginia, Louisville, and North Carolina.[6]

College career

McKneely entered his freshman season at Virginia a reserve at shooting guard.[7] He averaged 6.7 points and 2.2 rebounds per game while leading the Cavaliers with a 39.2% three-point field goal percentage.[8][9] McNeely was also named to the Atlantic Coast Conference's All-Academic team.[10]
