He is the son of Philippe de Gaulle and Henriette de Montalembert, and grandson of Charles de Gaulle. He was the Mayor of Thenezay from 24 March 1989 to 18 June 1995.
He was a deputy of the National Assembly from 1986 until 2007 French legislative election. On December 21, 2006, he was appointed external adviser to the French Court of Auditors ("Cour des Comptes") until December 2020. He was appointed Member of the College of Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF) from February 2019 to September 2021.
