Biography

Malone was born on 5 November 1963,[2][3] and grew up in a council house in Bexleyheath, South East London. She had severe dyslexia, and left school aged 13 to care for her mother, who had a stroke.[4]

In 1999, Malone sold Jo Malone London to Estée Lauder Companies for "undisclosed millions".[4] In 2011, she started a new fragrance company, Jo Loves.[5]

In 2008, Malone received an MBE,[6] then in 2018 a CBE.[7] In 2015, she was a castaway on BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs.[8]

Malone is married to former surveyor Gary Willcox, and they have a son together, Josh. Josh Willcox was accused of authoring pro Palestinian content in the wake of Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel, as part of his work at the Undergraduate Palestine Solidarity Committee of Harvard.[9][10]

In 2003, Malone was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer, and after a year of treatment her cancer was in remission.[11]
