Ko Klang

Ko Klang (Thai: เกาะกลาง) (Arabic: كو كلانج) is an island in tambon Khlong Prasong, Mueang Krabi District, Krabi Province, Thailand. The Thai community has a high Muslim ratio.[1]

Krabi. The island is accessible via long tail boat rides through the Mangrove forests of the area, with many waterfront houses being located on the decks and piers of the lush Krabi province landscape.

Demographics

As of 2017, population of the island was around 5’000 people from 915 families. 70% of the population are indigenous to the island. The inhabitants are 90% Muslim, 10% Buddhist and other religions.[1]

Economy

Ko Klang has many sources of income. Many of the inhabitants are boatmen who transport locals to and from Krabi town, or transport tourists to the surrounding islands. Local rice farms are another source of income. Handicrafts are sold, some being the Indonesian Batik Fabric, and souvenirs to support the great tourist economy of Ko Klang.

Environment

Mangrove forests make up large parts of the island, 80%, to be exact.[2] Ko Klangs mangrove woods have many different kinds of species inhabiting the area. Swamps also are great homes for several species lurking in beneath the waters.

Climate

The annual precipitation in Ko klang is 1454.4 mm. The hottest month is June, the coldest month is January, the wettest month is November; and the windiest month is February.[3]
