History
The station was opened on April 15, 1910 as Kōri Station (香里駅). It was renamed on April 1, 1938.
Future plans
The facilities are expected to be moved to a new elevated station by 2028.[1] Construction has been in progress since September 2022.

In fiscal 2019, the station was used by an average of 59,025 passengers daily.[2]
