Krasnodon Raion (Ukrainian: Краснодонський район) is a raion (district) in Luhansk Oblast of eastern Ukraine.

Since 2014, Krasnodon Raion, including Khryashchuvate, has been controlled by forces of the Luhansk People's Republic (LPR / LNR).[1] Following the 2022 annexation referendums in Russian-occupied Ukraine, Russia has claimed the settlement as part of their LNR / LPR.

The raion was abolished by Ukraine on 18 July 2020 as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions of Luhansk Oblast to eight.[2][3]

The administrative center of the raion is the city of Krasnodon, which was incorporated by Ukraine as a city of oblast significance and did not belong to the raion, but in 2015 was merged into the raion. The last estimate of the raion population, reported by the Ukrainian government, was 28,943 (2020 est.)[4].

In 2016, the Verkhovna Rada renamed it Sorokyne Raion (Ukrainian: Сорокинський район), implementing the law prohibiting names of Communist origin. However, given that Ukraine has not controlled the territory since 2014, the name change has been largely symbolic.
