L’A Capone

Leonard Anderson was born on September 18, 1996, on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois. At the age of 8, Anderson moved to Atlanta to live with his father. Anderson went to middle school with Lil Yachty, and Anderson's brother was best friends with him. Anderson's father was shot and killed when he was 13, so after that, he moved back to Chicago.[1] At around this time, Anderson joined the Black Disciples street gang.[2] He attended Dunbar Vocational High School, where he was a senior at the time of his death.

In late 2012, Anderson started rapping under the name L’A Capone. His earliest songs included “Murder,” “Work,” and “We Up” featuring Edai. On September 29, 2012, he was shot in his hip, but was able to recover after surgery.[2]

L’A garnered attention in the Chicago drill scene after releasing his song “Shooters” featuring RondoNumbaNine, which was released on March 28, 2013.[3] His song “Play For Keeps,” also featuring RondoNumbaNine, was released on July 29, 2013.[2]

On October 5, 2013, nine days after LA's murder, his song “Some More” featuring Huncho Hoodo was released. His song “Brothers” featuring Lil Durk and RondoNumbaNine was released in December 2013.[4]

On September 26, 2013, L’A Capone was shot twice leaving a recording studio on 70th Street & Stony Island Avenue. He later died at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.[5]

In August 2014, Michael Mays, Sakhee Hardy-Johnson, and Meiko Buchanan, all three members of the Mickey Cobras street gang, were charged with first-degree murder in connection with L’A's murder. According to police, Mays and Hardy-Johnson were the gunmen while Buchanan drove the tail car.[6]

In November 2016, Buchanan pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 45 years.[7] In March 2017, Mays was found guilty and sentenced to 24 years.[8] Hardy-Johnson was found guilty in February 2017, and he was sentenced to 60 years in November 2017.
