Cheam Wei Yeng

Lesley Cheam Wei Yeng (1995 or 1996 (age 27–28)) is a Malaysian beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Universe Malaysia 2022. She represented her country in the Miss Universe 2022 pageant.[1]

In this Chinese name, the family name is Cheam (詹).

Early life and background

Cheam was born in Selangor, Malaysia. She obtained bachelor's degree in pharmaceutical and health science from University of Nottingham Malaysia in 2019 before pursuing a career in marketing.[2]

Pageantry

Miss Universe 2022

She represented Malaysia at the Miss Universe 2022 competition in New Orleans, US on 14 January 2023,[3] but was unplaced, this mark as the ”51 years of consecutive unplacements” for Malaysia in Miss Universe pageant history.[4]

Scandals

A video uploaded on Saturday 8 October 2022, shows Cheam talking while showing a souvenir that resembles a black dildo on her Instagram and Facebook personal account, she also demonstrates how to hold and suck it, making it aroused and erect.[5][6] This triggered a negative response from many Malaysian netizens, who consider it indecent to show a dildo in a video, especially seeing her title as Miss Universe Malaysia. This incident saw Cheam nicknamed Miss Dildo.[7]

Cheam's criticism on social media, resulted in her reducing her social media presence.[8][9] An unsuccessful petition was setup on Change.org by the Malaysian Pageant Lovers organization. It asked participants to have Ajunee Kaur, the first runner up of Miss Universe Malaysia 2022, replace Cheam in the Miss Universe 2022 pageant.[10]
